Hello Shagil Muzhappilangad, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:Kadamkathakal3.jpg

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

All the above photographs are taken by me. Those are cover page of books written by Malayalam writer T.K.D. Muzhappilangad. My intention is clear that all these photos are to be used as a proof of his works when i created this authors page. I couldn't understand why these should be deleted. Help me to do better with WIKIMWDIA COMMONS. Shagil Kannur (talk) 08:15, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Commons:Categories#Over-categorization

[edit]

hi, in general I like your uploads although many of your current pix are missing EXIF data to verify claimed 'own work'. Just a recommendation, don't remove the EXIF data of your digicam before uploading your works to Wikimedia Commons, hence, you'll avoid deletion requests.

Nevertheless, you strongly over-categorize your uploads, usually dozens at a time, although the past weeks the were categorized in a correct way, again and gain, see for instance among a serial of about more than 50 pix. Hence, it's urgently recommended to read Commons:Categories#Over-categorization to avoid wasting much time to fix these, your over-categoriation issues :) feel free to contact the Wikimedia help desk if you have questions related to categorization and other questions related to Wikimedia Commons. thx and bye, Roland zh (talk) 19:03, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Dear sir, i have talked in detail with Malayalam author T.K.D. Muzhappilangad. And after that I have created an article about this author. With the permission of this author I took all that photographs belonging to him. The above mentioned photo is a poster of a screen play which was written by this author. There is no such copyright as these kind of posters are often seen on the street walls. And moreover this was a very old poster. I think it shouldn't be deleted. You can talk with Malayalam Wikipedia (ml.wiki) administrators about on this matter before deleting those photos. I am thinking of stop uploading photos to Commons. Thanks for uploading File:Bharathanaatyam hss 6.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading File:A Description of old Fire Engine at Jaivilas Palace, Gwalior.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:A Description of old Fire Engine at Jaivilas Palace, Gwalior.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Kerala School Kalolsavam 2024 has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. In addition, I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request, as linked above: not including reason, year, month, or day; not creating the subpage; and not transcluding. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar provided by the AjaxQuickDelete gadget per subpolicy procedures COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you MUST follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of subpolicy procedure COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks, as "We cannot work here with people who are not willing to follow our procedures, in particular for deletion requests."   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:07, 22 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their source is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:12, 22 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

What is your problem eh? Who do you think you are? Teach your A B C lessons to newcomers. Shagil Kannur (talk) 03:48, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Your edit Special:Diff/1012245141 brought this page to my attention. I answered your question of 02:33. I have been here on Commons ten years longer than you and have a variety of group memberships conferred by Admins and Stewards due to their trust in me. I had that {{File copyright status}} message brought here from enwiki, modified for Commons, and vetted by Admins. All of those links I sent you at 00:16 involved deletion by Admins of files that you had asserted were free enough for Commons to host, but were found not to be free enough. So, to turn your question around, who do you think you are?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 06:53, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Challenging someone's memory is not a right just because they occupy prominent positions in the Commons. It is not a good tendency. Treating someone who has contributed excellent photos to the Commons in such a disrespectful manner is not how someone like you should behave. I apologize. You should end this here. This causes me a lot of personal humiliation. I politely inform you that I do not require your advice regarding copyright matters. I do not know whether your intention is to delete the photos I have uploaded in the name of this. In any case, that is not appropriate. You will likely arrive at a decision after reviewing my modest contributions.Thank you. Shagil Kannur (talk) 07:27, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey man. For this image, i and my friends are the designers. This is one of our festivals in Kerala. And the Turkish light was bought from a shop. Nobody know who designed it. Great. Keep it up. This will encourage me for further uploading. Thank you. Shagil Muzhappilangad (talk) 03:14, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Better you do the same with all these files, i think.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=%22Ornamental+light%22&title=Special%3AMediaSearch&go=Go&type=image is a better search. Now, for which of these is the uploader holding themself out as the copyright holder of the underlying work?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:43, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
For example see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wildcat_Center,_ornamental_light_2023-05-15.jpg this file. Now please tell me who holds the copyright of this object really. I just claimed copyright for my photograph and not for that artwork. Thank you. Shagil Muzhappilangad (talk) 13:57, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
That looks like a transplanted centuries-old design, with pitted wrought iron covered by paint, that was then abused. You could ask Xnatedawgx.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:20, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
What you actually want is to show that you have the authority to delete things like this. It would be good if you understood that people like me don't upload photos here just for fun. Even if you don't encourage contributors, at least try not to discourage them like this. Shagil Muzhappilangad (talk) 17:00, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

There are plenty of examples... But here i stop my arguments. And i don't want the deleted photo be restored. Thank you. Shagil Muzhappilangad (talk) 17:08, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Join the first national Wiki Science Competition 2025 in India from 1 Nov to 15 Dec

[edit]

Hello Shagil Muzhappilangad!,

You are receiving this message as you have previously participated in one of the Wiki Loves X campaigns or are an active Wikimedia Commons contributor.

We’re excited to announce that the Wiki Science Competition 2025 in India is being organized for the very first time at a national level. This global campaign celebrates science through freely licensed images, videos, and other media on Wikimedia Commons. By participating, you help make science more visible, accessible, and inspiring to people everywhere.

The competition features eight exciting categories:

  1. People in Science
  2. Microscopy
  3. Astronomy
  4. Everyday Science
  5. Scientific Equipment
  6. Chemistry
  7. Physics
  8. Special Category

Campaign Duration: The competition will run from 1 November to 15 December 2025. You can upload your images anytime during this period.

Images taken before 1 November 2025 are also eligible, as long as they have never been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons before.

We’re excited to introduce the first-ever dedicated "Mobile Photography" participation option. Now, you can upload photographs taken with your mobile phone directly through a special upload wizard.

This new option is designed to encourage students and individuals who may not have access to high-end cameras like DSLRs to participate. Whether your images are captured using a mobile phone or a professional DSLR, all submissions will be judged equally within the relevant category. This ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to capture and share the wonders of science from their own perspective.

Please visit the official pages for more details:

We look forward to your participation and support in making this national campaign a great success. It’s your chance to participate, get recognized, and show how science looks through your lens!. Thank you.

Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 has started, Join us!

Hello Shagil Muzhappilangad,

The world’s traditions are disappearing faster than we can document them, but you can help change that.

On behalf of the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team, we are reaching out to invite you to contribute to the 2026 edition of our global campaign.

Share Your Cultural Heritage with the World

Wiki Loves Folklore is an international media contest dedicated to documenting the "intangible" beauty of our cultures. Whether it’s the vibrant colours of a folk festival, the rhythm of a traditional dance, the secrets of a family recipe, or the legends of your hometown, your media helps preserve these legacies for generations to come.

How You Can Contribute Participating is simple, and every upload contributes to the world's largest free knowledge repository:

  • Capture: Take photos, record videos, or capture audio of folk activities, music, mythology, or traditional wear.
  • Upload: Share your files on Wikimedia Commons between 1 February 2026 and 31 March 2026.
  • Win: Beyond the satisfaction of preservation, there are international prizes for the most impactful contributions.

Ready to get started? Click here to upload your media now or visit the Main Project Page for full rules and category details.

Your perspective is a vital piece of the global cultural puzzle. We can't wait to see the folklore you bring to life.

Warm regards,

#WeTogether

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!

[edit]

Hi everyone,

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.

Here are your top three winning images:

You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
